One of the Christian faith’s unique aspects is that its truth claims are based on Jesus Christ’s resurrection. An implication of this is that the meaning of the resurrection of Jesus and the meaning of the Christian faith for which it vouches is not a meaning susceptible to private interpretation. The early Church’s creeds from which we benefit were developed with one eye fixed on present community (collegial and fraternal relationships among all the churches) and the other fixed on past community (tradition). Our approach to learning and applying the truths of the Christian faith is similar.
