Join us for Lent at Grace

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday (March 1) and goes until Easter (April 16). The 40 days of Lent are traditionally connected to Jesus' 40 days in the wilderness. They are used by the church today to prepare for Easter.

We begin Lent on Ash Wednesday, with a service that emphasizes our mortality. Ash Wednesday can come across as morbid, as we recite the refrain: From dust you were made, and to dust you shall return. But the good news of Ash Wednesday is that none of us is God, and though we scurry around as if our lives depended upon it, God is in control. We are mortal, and that is okay. In fact it is good news.

From Ash Wednesday, we move towards Easter. We read stories in the gospels about Jesus journey to Jerusalem where he will be crucified. We symbolically journey with him to Jerusalem. Good Friday (April 14) commemorates the death of Christ. Our Good Friday service will be somber as we reflect on the pain and misery that caused Christ to be rejected by the world and crucified. Two days later, we gather on Easter to celebrate his victory over death.

We would love for you to join us for one of our Lent services. There are also events like Beer and Hymns, outreach opportunities at Breakthrough Urban Ministries, and other social gatherings during Lent. Check out our events page for the most updated information.
